Upcoming online classes

  • by Zack Shapiro – Creator, Silencer.io

Please note: This class is directed toward Mac users.

Zack Shapiro is a developer for TaskRabbit, and scratched his own itch with Silencer. His posts about learning to code have gained massive traction on Hacker News and around the Internet.

In ‘From Rails Zero to Hero,’ he will take you from knowing nothing about programming to building your first simple Rails application. By building each piece together, you will come to understand how to build the applications that, until now, have just existed in your head! I’ll walk you through different data types, how to send and receive information, how to construct forms, how to write helpful functions that get you the information you need to create web apps!

In this class, we’ll cover how to set up a Rails dev environment on your Mac and how to spin up your first application. We’ll also cover the Model, View, Controller paradigm for writing code and start building the skills together to be confident coders without getting lost in the millions of articles that attempt to teach you “how to code.” We’ll also talk about how to be a good beginner, not get ahead of yourself and be confident as you hone your craft.

  • by Tim Anglade – Head of Developer Programs, Apigee

A free 1-hour class to learn everything you need to know to build a mobile app for iOS, Android, Windows Phone or Blackberry! In this session adapted from Tim’s popular mobile training series (taken by over 1,000 people around the world so far!), we’ll use standard tools like HTML5, jQuery, PhoneGap and APIs to demonstrate how to quickly assemble cross-platform mobile apps that behave natively on your preferred mobile platform, and are ready to handle “catastrophic” success on the app store.

After a quick review of standards and UI prototyping tools, we’ll take a look at how to integrate data sources & storage, and package your app for delivery on the app store. We’ll have our first app working on a device in under one hour, with plenty of time to spare for questions.

Pre-requisites: being able to read HTML and JavaScript will be useful to follow along. We will pass around links to all tools & code used during the class.

Every collaborator always has the latest version of whatever document they need, meaning there’s always a single version of the truth.

So how do you make it happen? We’ll show you.
